Humberto Ramos's Comic Book Journey
Humberto Ramos started his career in 1989 at a company called Kaboom Cómics. His amazing drawing skills soon caught the attention of bigger comic book companies.
Joining DC Comics
In 1995, Ramos was hired by DC Comics. He became the main artist for their new comic series Impulse. This series was a spin-off from the popular Flash comics.
The Impulse series was written by Mark Waid. It was a fun superhero and teen comedy story. It followed a young speedster named Bart Allen. Bart was the grandson of the second Flash, Barry Allen. The comics showed Bart's adventures and challenges as he grew up.
Creating Cliffhanger Comics
In 1998, Humberto Ramos teamed up with two other famous comic artists, Joe Madureira and J. Scott Campbell. Together, they started a new comic book company called Cliffhanger. This company was part of Jim Lee's Image Comics division, Wildstorm.
The goal of Cliffhanger was to publish comics that the artists owned themselves. This meant they could create stories outside of the usual superhero world. Ramos's first comic for Cliffhanger was Crimson. He later created another series called Out There, which was a mix of fantasy and mystery.
Drawing Spider-Man
Ramos also started drawing covers for Marvel Comics' Peter Parker: Spider-Man series. He then drew the inside artwork for a four-issue story arc called "A Death in the Family." This story was later collected as Spider-Man: Return of the Goblin.
After his work with Cliffhanger ended, Ramos moved on to a new Spider-Man comic. This was The Spectacular Spider-Man. He worked with writer Paul Jenkins again, who he had worked with on Peter Parker: Spider-Man. Ramos was even nominated for a Harvey Award in 2005 for his amazing cover art on Spectacular Spider-Man.
New Adventures and Collaborations
In 2005, Ramos released his own six-issue comic series called Revelations. This was published by Dark Horse Comics. After Revelations, Ramos returned to Marvel Comics. He joined writer Marc Guggenheim to work on the Wolverine comic series.
Around the same time, Ramos also illustrated a French comic series called Kookaburra K. This was a space opera story. He worked with French comic creator Crisse on this project.
From 2008 to 2009, Ramos worked with writer Terry Moore on the Runaways comic series. In 2010, he became one of the main artists for The Amazing Spider-Man.
Amazing Spider-Man and The Champions
In April 2014, Ramos and writer Dan Slott launched a new version of Amazing Spider-Man. This was part of Marvel's "Marvel NOW!" initiative. The first issue of this new series became the best-selling comic of the 21st Century, according to Diamond Comics Distributors.
In 2016, Ramos teamed up with writer Mark Waid to create a new superhero team for Marvel. This team was called The Champions.
