Humpy Peak is a tall mountain located in the Uinta Mountain Range in northern Utah. It stands about 44 kilometers (27 miles) south of Evanston, Wyoming. It is also about 34 kilometers (21 miles) east of Coalville, Utah. The very top of the mountain is 3,315 meters (10,875 feet) high!
Why is Humpy Peak Important?
Humpy Peak is a key spot for sending out radio and communication signals. There is a large tower near the top of the mountain. This tower sends out many different signals to the areas around it. Groups like the Utah Communications Agency Network (UCANN) use transmitters here. The United States Forest Service also has a transmitter on the mountain.
Radio Stations on Humpy Peak
Many FM radio stations send their main signals from the tower on Humpy Peak. Some new stations are also planning to move their broadcasts to this mountain.

Radio stations use Humpy Peak because of how the land is shaped around Salt Lake City. This shape, called a "terrain shadow," helps stations use certain frequencies. It lets them broadcast without interfering with other stations in the main market area.
All the stations listed above use special "booster" signals. These boosters work with the main station to fill in any areas the main signal might not reach well. For example, KLO-FM uses six boosters to cover the Salt Lake City area. This area is behind the Wasatch Mountain Range from the main transmitter.
Humpy Peak's Location and Signals
Humpy Peak is on the northwest side of the Uinta Mountain range. You can reach the peak by a road on private land. This road starts from Utah State Route 150. The peak is about 20 kilometers (12.74 miles) from the Mirror Lake recreation site.
Because Humpy Peak is so high, its signals can travel a long way. They can even reach far into Wyoming. This means that towns like Evanston and other nearby communities get more radio stations. Sometimes, stations from Humpy Peak can be heard as far northeast as Green River, Wyoming.
