History of Huntleigh
Huntleigh began as a large farm in the 1700s. It was owned by Stephen Maddox. Today, Huntleigh is mostly homes, with no big stores or factories. The city of Frontenac helps provide police services for Huntleigh.
Huntleigh officially became a city in 1929. At that time, it covered about 450 acres. Over the years, the city grew bigger. It added more land in 1937 and again in 1947. This is how it reached its current size of about 750 acres.
In 1927, a group of people started a fox hunting club called the Bridlespur Hunt. One of the founders was August Anheuser Busch, Sr. The club was based in Huntleigh. Today, the fox hunts happen in St. Charles County. However, some people in Huntleigh still keep their horses and stables there. Many of the people who live in Huntleigh are quite wealthy.
