Location and History
Hushpuckena is found along U.S. Route 61, a famous highway. It's about 3 miles (5 km) south of a town called Duncan. It's also about 4 miles (6 km) north of Shelby.
The community is located on what used to be the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad line. This railroad was important for moving goods and people in the past.

Hushpuckena got its name from the nearby Hushpuckena River. The name Hushpuckena comes from the Choctaw language. People believe it means "sunflowers are abundant." This suggests that many sunflowers grew in the area long ago.
Post Office History
For many years, Hushpuckena had its own post office. It opened in 1885. The post office served the community for a long time. It finally closed its doors in 1968.
