What is Huskie the Muskie?
Huskie the Muskie is a famous landmark in Kenora. It's a very large statue of a muskellunge fish. People often stop to take pictures with it. The sculpture is known across Canada because of its size. It's also easy to spot from the Trans-Canada Highway.
How Huskie the Muskie Was Built
The first Huskie the Muskie was built in 1967. This was part of a plan for Canada's 100th birthday, known as the Canadian Centennial. Jules Horvath and Bob Selway from Deluxe Signs and Displays created it. They worked under the direction of the Kenora Chamber of Commerce. The original sculpture was rebuilt in 1995 to keep it looking great.
Naming the Giant Fish
After the giant fish was built, people wanted to give it a special name. The Kenora Chamber of Commerce asked the public for ideas. Hundreds of names were sent in! The committee chose "Huskie the Muskie." The winner was Bill Brabooke. He also suggested a great slogan: "Huskie the Muskie says Prevent Water Pollution." This slogan reminds everyone to keep our waters clean.

Huskie the Muskie is so famous that it has appeared in movies! It often shows up as a sign that characters are traveling across Canada.
