Hyun Hee (Korean: 현희; born on October 4, 1976) is a retired South Korean épée fencer. She is famous for her amazing skills in the sport of fencing. Hyun Hee became a world champion and won several medals during her career.
Who is Hyun Hee?
Hyun Hee was born in Seongnam, a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. From a young age, she showed great talent in fencing. Fencing is a sport where two people fight with swords, but it's very safe and follows strict rules. Épée is one of the three types of swords used in fencing.
A Champion Fencer
Hyun Hee became a top fencer in her country. She competed in many big events around the world. Her hard work and dedication helped her achieve great success. She is known for her strong focus and quick moves during matches.
Her Big Wins
One of Hyun Hee's biggest achievements was at the 2002 World Fencing Championships. This important competition was held in Lisbon. Hyun Hee won the gold medal in the individual épée event for women. She beat Imke Duplitzer from Germany in the final match with a score of 15–11.
This win was very special. Hyun Hee, along with Tan Xue from China, became the first fencers from Asia to win gold medals at the World Championships. This was a huge moment for Asian fencing. Because of her success, Hyun Hee was named South Korean Sportswoman of the Year in 2002.
She also won medals at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea. She earned a gold medal in the team épée event. She also won a silver medal in the individual épée event at the same games.
