The iPhone SE is a smartphone created by Apple Inc.. It was first released on March 31, 2016. This phone was special because it had many of the powerful features of the iPhone 6S, but it came in the smaller body of an iPhone 5S.
The iPhone SE did not have a feature called 3D Touch or a barometer. However, it had an improved Apple A9 chip, a better battery, and a camera that could record super clear 4K video.
Apple stopped making the iPhone SE on September 12, 2018. Many people were sad about this. Some thought Apple made a mistake by removing its smallest and most affordable iPhone. They felt the company was forgetting customers who liked a phone that was both easy to hold and not too expensive. Some tech experts even pointed out that people with smaller hands often find large smartphones uncomfortable. They hoped Apple would bring back smaller phones that you could use easily with just one hand.

How the iPhone SE Was Created
Earlier iPhones, like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, had much bigger screens. The iPhone 6 had a 4.7-inch screen, and the iPhone 6 Plus had a 5.5-inch screen. However, many customers still preferred the smaller 4-inch screen size of older phones like the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5S.
Apple noticed this. At an event on March 21, 2016, they announced that they had sold over 30 million 4-inch iPhones in 2015. This showed that lots of people still wanted smaller phones. Later at the event, they introduced the iPhone SE. They called it "the most powerful 4-inch phone ever."
The iPhone SE, along with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, were the last iPhones to have the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack. This means you could plug in your regular headphones without needing an adapter.
Apple stopped making the iPhone SE on September 12, 2018. The iPhone 6S and iPhone X were also stopped at the same time.
Design and Colors
The iPhone SE looks almost exactly like the iPhone 5 and 5S. The main differences are that the iPhone SE has slightly rounded edges. It also has a shiny stainless steel Apple logo on the back. If you had a case for an iPhone 5 or 5S, it would fit an iPhone SE perfectly.
The iPhone SE came in four cool colors:
Color | Name | Front |
---|---|---|
Space Gray | Black | |
Silver | White | |
Gold | White | |
Rose Gold | White |
What People Thought About the iPhone SE
Many tech reviewers really liked the iPhone SE.
CNET, a popular tech website, said the iPhone SE was a "great choice" for a small phone. They liked that Apple offered different sizes of phones, like the 4.0-inch SE, the 4.7-inch 6S, and the 5.5-inch 6S Plus. CNET later said the iPhone SE was "the smaller, more pocketable member of the iPhone family." They praised its long battery life and the fact that it still had a headphone jack.
The Verge, another tech website, called the iPhone SE "a much-improved, well-designed, small phone with great battery life." They thought it was a great upgrade for people who had older iPhone 4S or 5S models. They noted its familiar look and strong performance. They even said the small screen was the only minor issue for doing many things at once or using certain apps.
TechCrunch really liked the iPhone SE's design. They said the phone appealed to people who preferred a smaller phone, not just those who missed older models. They even said that the iPhone SE was the best iPhone Apple had ever made because it was so easy to carry and use.
