"I Love Rocky Road" is a funny song from 1983 by the famous musician "Weird Al" Yankovic. It's all about someone who really, really loves rocky road ice cream. This song is a parody, which means it's a funny version of another popular song. It spoofs "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. That original song was first made by a band called Arrows in 1975.

Making the "I Love Rocky Road" Music Video

The music video for "I Love Rocky Road" was the first one ever directed by Dror Soref. It's a funny take on the original "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" music video. But "Weird Al" made some hilarious changes!

Differences from the Original Video

  • The original video was set in a tavern, but "I Love Rocky Road" takes place in a fun ice cream parlor.
  • The original video was in black and white. "Weird Al's" video was shot in full color!
  • Instead of being filmed like a movie, "I Love Rocky Road" was recorded on videotape.
  • In the original song, Joan Jett shouts "Ow!" because she's excited. In "I Love Rocky Road," "Weird Al" says "Ow!" when he gets a brain freeze from eating too much ice cream. The second time, he says "Ow!" because a kid bites his leg!
  • A famous radio host named Dr. Demento makes a special appearance in the video. He plays the cashier at the ice cream parlor.
  • While "Weird Al" plays his accordion, you can see the cover picture for the single.
  • "Weird Al" wears a black leather jacket with the I Love Lucy logo. This was a nod to his first music video, "Ricky".
  • Guess what? The "ice cream" you see in the video wasn't real ice cream at all! It was actually mashed potatoes. Real ice cream would have melted too quickly under the bright stage lights.
  • When "Weird Al" sings the line, "If I get fat and lose my teeth, that's fine with me," he smiles. His teeth look like they've either fallen out or are rotten for a funny effect!
