"I Want It All" is a popular song from the movie High School Musical 3: Senior Year. It was the second single released from the movie's soundtrack. The song is performed by Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel. They play the characters Sharpay Evans and Ryan Evans in the film.
About the Song
The shorter "Radio Edit" version of the song first played on Radio Disney on August 15, 2008. This was part of their Planet Premiere show. A longer version of the song became available for download on iTunes on September 9, 2008.
The song was very popular on Radio Disney. It even reached the number 1 spot on the radio's weekly countdown. "I Want It All" and eleven other songs from the High School Musical 3 soundtrack were considered for an Academy Award. However, none of the songs from the movie received a final nomination. The song was also used as background music for auditions on Britain's Got Talent in 2009.
Music Videos
Two previews of the movie scene were released as official music videos for the song. They first aired on Disney Channel on August 22, 2008. Both videos show Sharpay and Ryan singing and dancing. They dream about being famous and living a glamorous life.
These videos showed different parts of the song. A third preview of the movie scene came out on October 17, 2008. It showed another part of the song and new scenes. In these scenes, Sharpay and Ryan are shown as superstars. There is also a special appearance by Zac Efron.
Song Versions
The song "I Want It All" was released in a few different versions. The full album version is 4 minutes and 37 seconds long. There is also a shorter "Radio Disney edit" which is 3 minutes and 40 seconds. A "Video edit" is 1 minute and 31 seconds, and a special "Lucas Grabeel solo" version is 50 seconds long.
Chart Performance
"I Want It All" spent four weeks on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart in the United States. This means it was close to making it onto the main Billboard Hot 100 chart, but it didn't quite get there. It also started at number 3 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales chart. However, it quickly fell off that chart the next week.
Outside of the U.S., the song reached number 75 on the Canadian Hot Digital Songs chart. It did not make it onto the main Canadian music chart. In the United Kingdom, the song debuted at number 87 on the UK Singles Chart.
