Iain Bryden Percy (born March 21, 1976) is a famous English sailor. He is a double Olympic champion for Great Britain. He has won many medals in major sailing competitions around the world.

Iain Percy first competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. He won a gold medal in the Finn class, which is a type of single-person sailboat. He received his gold medal at a special ceremony near the famous Sydney Opera House.

In the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, he competed in the double-handed Star class. He finished 6th with his teammate Steve Mitchell. This team later won a bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships. They also won a gold medal at the 2005 European Championships.

Iain Percy then teamed up with Andrew Simpson. Together, they won a bronze medal at the Star class World Championships in 2007. They also won a gold medal at the European Championship in 2009. In 2010, they won gold at the World Championships held in Brazil.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Iain Percy won another gold medal. This time, it was in the Star class with Andrew Simpson.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson won the silver medal. It was a very close race against a team from Sweden.

Iain Percy is a member of the Hayling Island Sailing Club. He often sails there.

America's Cup Racing

In 2005, Iain Percy decided to try something different from Olympic sailing. He joined an America's Cup team called +39 Challenge. The America's Cup is a very famous international sailing competition. He was the helmsman, which means he steered the boat.

After that, Iain joined Great Britain's TEAMORIGIN. He competed in several races with them. Later, he joined Artemis Racing, another well-known sailing team.

Iain Percy has been with Artemis Racing for a long time. He was the Sailing Team Director for the team that challenged for the 35th America's Cup. Since 2017, he has been the CEO of Artemis Technologies. This company works on advanced maritime technology.

Awards and Honors

Iain Percy has received special awards for his achievements. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2005. This was to recognize his first Olympic gold medal.

In 2009, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). This is an even higher honor, given for his continued success.

He also received an honorary degree from the University of Bristol in 2009. This means the university recognized his great accomplishments.
