James Ian Keith (born July 25, 1908, died October 1, 1989) was a Scottish nobleman. He was known as Viscount Stonehaven for many years. Later, he became the 12th Earl of Kintore and the Chief of Clan Keith. He also served as a Deputy Lieutenant.
Early Life and Education
James Ian Baird was born on July 25, 1908. He was often called Ian. His parents were John Baird, 1st Viscount Stonehaven, who was a government minister, and Ethel Sydney Keith-Falconer, who later became the 11th Countess of Kintore.
His grandfathers were Sir Alexander Baird, 1st Baronet and Algernon Keith-Falconer, 9th Earl of Kintore.
When he was young, Ian worked as a labourer in Britain and Canada. He went to Eton College for school. After that, he studied at the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College London. He became an Associate of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
Career and Public Service
In 1941, Ian became Viscount Stonehaven after his father passed away. During World War II, he joined the Royal Marine Engineers. He rose to the rank of Major.
From 1947 to 1952, Lord Stonehaven lived in South Africa. He then returned to Scotland to manage his family's estate at Rickarton. In 1954, he became a member of the Kincardineshire County Council. He was made a Deputy Lieutenant of Kincardineshire in 1959.
Between 1965 and 1976, he served as Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire. In 1966, his mother became the Countess of Kintore. The next year, Lord Stonehaven officially changed his last name from Baird to Keith. In 1974, he became the 12th Earl of Kintore after his mother. He also joined the Grampian Regional Council in 1974. He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.
In 1978, a peace treaty was signed between Clan Keith and Clan Gunn. This ended a feud that had lasted for 500 years, since 1478.
Family Life
On March 5, 1935, Lord Kintore married Delia Virginia Loyd (1915–2007). She was the only daughter of William Lewis Brownlow Loyd. Together, they had three children:

- Michael Keith, 13th Earl of Kintore (1939–2004)
