Ian McCrea (born 12 June 1976) is a politician from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for the Mid Ulster area from 2007 to 2016.
About Ian McCrea
Ian McCrea was born in Magherafelt, Northern Ireland, in 1976.
His Political Journey
McCrea started his political career in 2001. He was elected to the Cookstown District Council. A council is a group of people who make decisions for a local area. He even served as the chairman of the Council from 2007 to 2008. He was also part of the Cookstown District Policing Partnership. This group helps local police work with the community.
He was once a member of the Young Democrats. Later, he became the chairman of the DUP branch in Cookstown. The DUP is a political party in Northern Ireland. He also chaired the party's Local Government Association in Cookstown. This group helps DUP members who work in local government.
McCrea is also a member of the Apprentice Boys of Derry. This is a historic organization. He also acts as chairman for the Coagh United Supporters Club. This club supports a local football team.
In 2011, his car was damaged outside his house. No one said they were responsible for this incident.
In 2012, McCrea shared his thoughts on social media about local sports teams. He hoped that teams from his area wouldn't win titles. He said he wanted to "keep the celebrations out of Mid Ulster."
At the 2016 Assembly election, Ian McCrea was not re-elected. He lost his seat to another candidate from his own party, Keith Buchanan. McCrea believed this happened because of a "campaign of misinformation." He also thought it was due to his party running two candidates in the same area.
In the 2019 local elections, he ran again for the Mid Ulster District Council. He ran in the Torrent District but was not elected.
Family Life
Ian McCrea lives in Cookstown. He lives there with his wife and their three children.
