Ian McCrea (born 12 June 1976) is a politician from Northern Ireland. He was a member of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). From 2007 to 2016, he served as a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for the area of Mid Ulster.

Political Journey
Starting in Local Government
Ian McCrea began his political career in 2001. He was elected to the Cookstown District Council. A District Council is a local government body that makes decisions for a specific area, like a town or district. He even served as the chairman of this Council from 2007 to 2008. He was also part of the Cookstown District Policing Partnership, which helps local police work with the community.
Role in the DUP
McCrea was once a member of the Young Democrats. Now, he is the chairman of the DUP's local branch in Cookstown. The DUP, or Democratic Unionist Party, is one of the main political parties in Northern Ireland. He also chairs the party's Local Government Association in Cookstown. This group helps DUP members who work in local councils.
Assembly Member for Mid Ulster
In 2007, Ian McCrea was elected as a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA). This means he represented the people of Mid Ulster in the main government body of Northern Ireland. He held this important role until 2016.
Later Elections
In the 2016 Assembly election, Ian McCrea did not win his seat again. He lost to another candidate from his own party, Keith Buchanan. McCrea believed this happened because of false information spread during the election.
Later, in the 2019 local elections, he tried to get elected to the Mid Ulster District Council. He ran in the Torrent District area but was not successful.
Interests and Personal Life
Ian McCrea is a member of the Apprentice Boys of Derry, which is a loyal order in Northern Ireland. He also serves as the chairman of the Supporters Club for Coagh United, a local football team.
McCrea lives in Cookstown with his wife and their three children.
