About Ian Stuart Donaldson

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Ian Stuart Donaldson was born in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, England. He went to Baines School nearby. There, he met friends Sean McKay, Phil Walmsley, and John Grinton.

Together, they formed a cover band called Tumbling Dice. They played songs by famous groups like the Rolling Stones. In 1975, they started a new band named Skrewdriver. This band became known for attracting some trouble at their concerts.

Skrewdriver and Political Music

After 1979, the first Skrewdriver band members went their separate ways. Ian Stuart Donaldson then formed a new version of Skrewdriver. This new band started writing songs that appealed to people who believed in "white power."

"White power" is a term used by groups who believe that white people are superior to other races. These groups often promote ideas of racial hatred and discrimination. The new Skrewdriver openly supported far-right groups, like the National Front. They also helped raise money for them.

Skrewdriver became well-known for its involvement in the White Nationalist movement. This movement promotes the idea of a white-only society. Their music was part of a style called Rock Against Communism. This was a type of music that promoted far-right political views.

Blood & Honour Network

In 1987, Donaldson and a Skrewdriver roadie named Nicky Crane started Blood & Honour. This was a network that supported groups with certain political beliefs. It helped to share "white power" music and organize concerts.

Other Music Projects

Donaldson was also the leader of two other bands. One was The Klansmen, which played rockabilly music. The other was White Diamond, a hard rock and heavy metal band. He also released several albums on his own.

With Skrewdriver guitarist Stigger (Stephen Calladine), he recorded two albums called Patriotic Ballads. These albums included covers of folk songs. One of these songs was "The Green Fields of France."

His Death

On September 23, 1993, Ian Stuart Donaldson was in a car crash in Derbyshire. He died the next day, at 36 years old.
