A Look Back: The University's Story

The Jesuits first opened the Iberoamerican University in Mexico City in 1943. They brought their educational efforts to Torreón in 1982. The first classes had 129 students. They studied subjects like Communication and Civil Engineering.

In 1984, construction began on the university's current campus. The main buildings were finished between 1986 and 1993. In 1992, the campus buildings were praised for being both attractive and useful. Today, the campus covers about 20 hectares (that's like 50 football fields!).
