Ibrahima Kassory Fofana (born 15 April 1954) is a Guinean politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Guinea from May 2018 to September 2021. The Prime Minister is a very important leader who helps the president run the country.
Mr. Fofana is an expert in economics and how countries manage their money. Before becoming Prime Minister, he held several key jobs in the Guinean government. He was a minister for investments and also the Minister of Economy and Finance. He even ran for president in 2010.

About Ibrahima Kassory Fofana
Ibrahima Kassory Fofana was born in Forécariah, a place in Lower Guinea. He grew up in a farming family.
Early Life and Education
After finishing his studies with high honors at the Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry in 1978, he started working in the government. He began in the research department of the ministry that handled international cooperation.
Later, he moved up in the ministry that dealt with planning and cooperation. By 1986, he was the director of international cooperation. In 1991, he became the director of public investments.
Rising in Government
Mr. Fofana quickly became an important person close to the Guinean president, Lansana Conté. He had a lot of influence. In 1994, he became a minister without a specific department. In this role, he managed big national projects. He also helped change state-owned companies and made economic reforms. These changes helped Guinea's economy move from a socialist system to a more open, market-based system.
In 1996, he became the minister for the budget. This job involved managing the country's money and helping to reorganize government-owned businesses.
Minister of Economy and Finance
In 1998, he was promoted to Minister of Economy and Finance. This was a very important job, and he held it until 2000. During this time, he worked with big international groups like the IMF and the World Bank. He helped Guinea successfully complete a program to improve its economy.
He also started Guinea's first program to fight corruption. This led to people being arrested and taken to court. He also helped clean up the list of government workers, which saved the country a lot of money.
While in this role, he also represented Guinea at the African Development Bank and the International Monetary Fund. He was also on the board of many companies in Guinea.
A New Path in Politics
In 2000, Mr. Fofana left the government. He then went abroad, first to Senegal and then to the United States.
In 2002, in the United States, he earned a special degree in development, finance, and banking from the American University in Washington. After that, he worked as an international consultant, advising different organizations.
In 2009, he returned to Guinea and started his own political party called Guinea for All (GPT). This party was known for not favoring any specific ethnic group. He was one of 24 people who ran in Guinea's first democratic presidential election in 2010. He focused his campaign on improving how the government worked and helping different regions of the country.
Working with President Alpha Condé
After the 2013 elections, Mr. Fofana became friends again with President Alpha Condé. The president asked for his help to improve Guinea's economy. Mr. Fofana decided to work with the president's team.
In 2014, he became a State Minister. His job was to manage investments and partnerships between the government and private companies. This was a new and important role. He worked hard to bring in money from inside and outside the country for important projects. He helped Guinea get $20 billion in investments from countries like China.
He also managed President Alpha Condé's election campaign in 2015. In May 2018, he joined the ruling political party, RPG-Arc-en-Ciel.
Becoming Prime Minister
On 21 May 2018, President Alpha Condé chose Ibrahima Kassory Fofana to be the Prime Minister of Guinea. He announced a big plan to reduce poverty. His goal was to help six million Guineans escape extreme poverty by 2025.
Government Changes in 2021
On 5 September 2021, the entire Guinean government, including Prime Minister Fofana, was dissolved. This happened after President Condé was arrested.
On December 11, 2024, a court decided to move him to a special medical center for better care.
