Ichiji Otani (大谷 一二, Otani Ichiji, August 31, 1912 – November 23, 2007) was a Japanese football player. He was known for playing as a forward. Otani also played for the Japan national team.
Playing for Japan
Ichiji Otani was born in Hyogo Prefecture on August 31, 1912. He was a student at Kobe University of Commerce. In May 1934, he was chosen to join the Japan national team.
He played in the 1934 Far Eastern Championship Games. This event took place in Manila. On May 13, he played his first game against Dutch East Indies. He also played against the Philippines and Republic of China. In 1934, he played 3 games for Japan and scored 1 goal.
Life After Football
After finishing his studies at Kobe University of Commerce, Otani stopped playing football professionally. He then started a career at a company called Toyo Boseki.
He became the president of Toyo Boseki in 1974. He held this important role until 1978. After that, he served as the chairman from 1978 to 1983. Ichiji Otani passed away on November 23, 2007, at the age of 95.
