Ida Kristine Nielsen (born in 1975), also known as Bass Ida or Ida Funkhouser, is a talented Danish musician. She is a bass player, composer, and vocalist. Ida is famous for being part of several bands. These include the Belgian band Zap Mama and the Danish pop-rock group Michael Learns to Rock. She also played with the American funk band the New Power Generation and the funk-rock trio 3rdeyegirl. Both of these last two bands were backing bands for the legendary musician Prince.

Ida Nielsen's Musical Journey
Ida Nielsen started playing the bass guitar when she was 16 years old. From 1993 to 1998, she studied music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. She earned her diploma with the electric bass as her main instrument.
In 2008, Ida released her first solo album, called Marmelade.
Working with Prince
In 2010, Ida Nielsen began working with the famous artist Prince. She joined his band, The New Power Generation, as a singer and bassist. Later, she became part of Prince's musical trio, 3rdeyegirl. In this group, she played alongside guitarist Donna Grantis and drummer Hannah Welton.
The trio toured in the UK, Europe, and North America. In 2014, they released their only album together, titled Plectrumelectrum.
Solo Albums and Prince's Influence
Ida released her second album, Sometimes a Girl Needs Some Sugar Too, in 2014. Prince himself chose her song "SHOWMEWHATUGOT" as a "Purple pick of the week" on TIDAL. This song was from her album TurnItUp.
Ida Nielsen and Prince continued to work together until Prince's death in April 2016. Later that year, she released her third album, TurnItUp, to honor his memory. In an interview in 2017, she spoke about how much Prince influenced her music and her life. She said, "The most important thing Prince taught me was to play with my heart. Always!"
