Community Events

Idalia Days Celebration

The people of Idalia started a fun project to create their own summer town celebration. They wanted it to be like the events in nearby towns. This event is called Idalia Days. It happens every summer if enough people are interested.

During its first celebration, Idalia Days had many activities for everyone. They used ideas from past town celebrations. Events included bed races, an old-time baseball game, and a special six-man football game. There was also a play about how the town moved. Other activities were a softball tournament and a town dance. The dance often had live music and tasty food.

Education in Idalia

Idalia has one school, Idalia School. It teaches students from preschool all the way through twelfth grade. The school's mascot is the wolf. The town also has a preschool and a daycare for younger children.

School Timeline

  • (1950) The first students graduated from the Idalia school.
  • (1970s) A new part for the high school was added to the existing building.
  • (1995) A new gymnasium (gym) was built.
  • (2012-2013) The old school building was taken down. A new school was built after the State of Colorado gave Idalia a special grant called the BEST grant.

Idalia Sports

Because the high school has a small number of students, Idalia plays six-man football. This is a special type of football. Instead of 11 players on each side, there are only six. Many schools in states like Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas also play six-man football.

Idalia had a very strong football team from the late 1990s into the 2000s. They won eight state championships between 1998 and 2010! Recently, the football team has faced challenges. This is due to fewer students and other schools joining their sports programs.

However, while the football team is rebuilding, the Idalia girls' sports teams have been very successful. In 2015, the Idalia girls' volleyball team made it to the Colorado Class 1A championship game. They played a tough game but lost to Otis High School. The girls' basketball team won state championships two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016!
