Idalou is a small city in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. It is located about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of the larger city of Lubbock. You can find it near where several important roads meet, like US 62 and US 82.

History of Idalou
Idalou started as a small community around a train depot in the early 1910s. This was on the South Plains and Santa Fe Railway line. Soon, it had a one-room school and a few shops.
The first post office opened in 1917. After the first school building burned down, a new two-story brick school was built in 1919. Idalou officially became a city in 1925. At that time, about 538 people lived there.
The city grew over the years. By 1980, its population reached 2,348 residents. Since then, the number of people living in Idalou has stayed above 2,000.
Life in Idalou
Today, Idalou has many services for its residents. It has a post office, a public library, and a city park with a pool. There is also an EMS station and a fire department to help keep people safe.
The town is an important center for cotton farming in northeast Lubbock County. Many people in Idalou work in farming or jobs related to agriculture. Because Idalou is close to Lubbock, many residents also work in the larger city nearby.
How Idalou Got Its Name
The city of Idalou was named after two sisters, Ida and Lou Bassett. They were the sisters of Julian M. Bassett, who was a vice president of a company called Crosby-Bassett Livestock Company in the 1910s.
