Idre's Past: A Look at History
Idre has an interesting history. Long ago, the areas of Särna and Idre were actually part of Norway. However, in 1644, a group of Swedish farmers from Älvdalen took control of these lands.
After this, a peace agreement called the Treaty of Brömsebro was signed in 1645. This treaty was not very clear about who owned Särna and Idre. It took many years to decide the exact border.
Finally, in 1751, Norway agreed that the border should be west of Idre and Särna. This meant these areas officially became part of Sweden.
Changes in Local Government
Over time, the way Idre was governed also changed. Originally, Idre was part of the Särna area. In 1916, Idre became its own separate local government area, known as a municipality.
Later, in 1971, three different municipalities – Särna, Idre, and Älvdalen – joined together. They formed the single, larger municipality that exists today, which is called Älvdalen Municipality.
