History of Idrottsparken
How the Stadium Started
Idrottsparken first opened on August 6, 1903. This was the same year that the GIF Sundsvall football club was created. Back then, it wasn't just for football. It also had tracks for running, places for bowling (skittles), shooting, and tennis courts. It was a true multi-sport park!
Modern Updates and Changes
In the early 2000s, Idrottsparken got a huge makeover. It was officially reopened on June 9, 2002, by Carl XVI Gustaf, who is the King of Sweden. For many years, the football field had real grass. But in 2004, they changed it to artificial turf. This was mainly because the cold weather in Sundsvall made it hard for real grass to grow well.
