Sundsvall Municipality (which is called Sundsvalls kommun in Swedish) is a special area in Västernorrland County, northern Sweden. It's like a local government area, and the main city where its offices are located is Sundsvall.
Many municipalities in Sweden, including Sundsvall, were formed by joining smaller areas together. This happened in steps, first in 1952, and then between 1965 and 1974. Before these changes, there were thirteen separate smaller areas in 1863 that now make up Sundsvall Municipality.
