Writing and Language Studies
Ienăchiță Văcărescu made a big mark in the world of books. In 1787, he wrote one of the very first printed books about Romanian grammar. This book was called Observaţii sau băgări de seamă asupra regulilor şi orânduielilor gramaticii româneşti. It helped people understand how the Romanian language worked.
He also wrote a complete grammar book for the Greek language. This shows how dedicated he was to studying and teaching languages.
His Poetic and Historical Works
Văcărescu was also a talented poet. His poems often talked about romantic love. He found inspiration from both ancient Greek poets like Anacreon and from Romanian folklore. Some of his most famous poems are Amărâta turturea ("Embittered Turtle Dove") and Într-o grădină ("In a Garden").
Besides poetry, he was a historian. He wrote a book called Istorie a Preaputernicilor Împăraţi Otomani. This means "History of the All Mighty Ottoman Emperors". It was a detailed look at the powerful Ottoman Empire.
Serving as a Diplomat
Ienăchiță Văcărescu was also a diplomat for Wallachia many times. This meant he traveled to other countries to represent his homeland. For example, he went to the Habsburg lands (which included parts of Austria). He helped negotiate for the sons of Prince Alexander Ypsilantis to return home.
During his travels, he even met and talked with Emperor Joseph II. He also became friends with the French ambassador, Baron de Breteuil. His amazing skill with the Italian language was so well-known that a historian later wrote about it.
