The Miraculous Señor de las Tribulaciones
One of the most famous things about this church is a small picture of Jesus Christ. It's called the Señor de las Tribulaciones, which means "Lord of Tribulations." This image is believed to be miraculous.
In 1893, there was a serious illness called cholera spreading in the city. Many people were getting sick. The people of Santa Cruz carried this special image in a procession through the streets. After this procession, the illness stopped as if by a miracle. Because of this event, the image is seen as a protector of the city. It even has a special title: Señor de Santa Cruz, meaning "Lord of Santa Cruz."
