Ignacio de Ries (born around 1612 – died after 1661) was an important Spanish painter from the Baroque period. He is known for his unique style and interesting artworks.

About Ignacio de Ries

Ignacio de Ries was likely born in Flanders, which was a part of the Spanish Netherlands at the time. We know he was working as a painter in Seville, Spain, between 1636 and 1661.

When he first started painting, his style was very similar to another famous Spanish artist, Zurbarán. Ignacio de Ries even worked in Zurbarán's art studio in 1636. However, Ignacio de Ries often painted different subjects. His work sometimes had a lively, colorful feel, similar to the style of the artist Rubens.

Later in his life, Ignacio de Ries was also influenced by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, another well-known painter. This made his paintings feel more energetic and full of movement, but he still kept his own special style. He probably passed away in Seville.
