Igor Borisovich Korolev (born September 6, 1970 – died September 7, 2011) was a talented Russian ice hockey player. He played as a centre, which is a key position in hockey. Igor played for many teams during his career, both in the famous National Hockey League (NHL) in North America and in top leagues in Russia.

Igor Korolev: A Hockey Star
Igor Korolev was a professional ice hockey player known for his skills as a centre. He was born in Zelenograd, which was part of the Soviet Union at the time. He started his professional hockey career in 1988.
His Hockey Journey
Igor Korolev played in over 700 games in the National Hockey League (NHL). This is one of the top hockey leagues in the world. He played for several well-known NHL teams, including the St. Louis Blues, Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Playing in Russia
Besides his time in the NHL, Igor also played many games in Russia's top hockey leagues. He played 329 games in the Russian Superleague (RSL) for teams like HC Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, and Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Later, he played 104 games in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), which is another major league in Europe and Asia. In the KHL, he played for Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
Life Beyond the Ice
In 2000, Igor Korolev became a naturalized Canadian citizen. This means he went through the process to become a citizen of Canada.
A Tragic Event
Sadly, Igor Korolev passed away on September 7, 2011. He was involved in a terrible plane crash. This accident affected the entire Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team. The plane was carrying the team when it crashed shortly after takeoff. Most of the people on board, including Igor, did not survive.
Igor Korolev was buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto, Canada. A funeral service was held for him on September 18, 2011.
