When Ike Awgu was just 19 years old, he decided to run for Mayor of Ottawa. This was during the 2003 Ottawa municipal election. A municipal election is when people vote for leaders in their city or town. Even though he was very young, he came in third place out of eight candidates. He received almost 3% of all the votes.
Later, he thought about running for city council in 2010. A city council is a group of people who make decisions for the city. However, he decided not to run when another experienced politician chose to seek re-election.
