Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) is a big public university in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. People often call it Al-Imam University (IMAMU). It started in 1950 as a special Islamic school.
A leader named Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh founded it. In 1953, it became the College of Sharia. Later, in 1974, it grew into a full university. This happened when it joined with other colleges. The university also has branches in Indonesia and Djibouti.
The main university building was started in 1982. It opened its doors in 1990. Today, the university has 14 colleges and many other institutes. It teaches over 60,000 students. More than 4,000 teachers work there.

How the University Started
In 1950, King Abdulaziz asked Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh to create an Islamic school. This school was in Riyadh. Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University officially began in 1974.
The university is named after Muhammad bin Saud Al Muqrin. He was a leader from Diriyah. He also founded the First Saudi State.
