Indian Springs State Park is a fun place to visit in Georgia. It covers 528 acres and is located near the towns of Jackson and Flovilla. This park is famous for its natural springs.

For hundreds of years, the Creek Indians used these springs. They believed the water had special healing powers. The spring water is known for its unique sulfur smell and taste. Many people think Indian Springs is the oldest state park in the entire country!

The state of Georgia gained this land from the Creek Indians. This happened through two important agreements: the Treaty of Indian Springs (1825) and the Treaty of Washington (1826). Since then, the area has always been a public park. It officially became a "State Park" in 1931. Before that, in the 1800s, it was a popular resort town. In 1927, it was called a "State Forest Park." Then, in 1931, it became one of the first official state parks in Georgia, along with Vogel State Park.

Today, visitors can still try the spring water. You can also enjoy swimming, fishing, and boating in the park. Many buildings here were constructed a long time ago. They were built during the Great Depression by a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps. This group helped people find jobs during a tough time.

The park has a 105-acre lake filled with fish. There is also a 3/4-mile nature trail for walking. Another trail, 3.25 miles long, connects the park to the Dauset Trails Nature Center.

Discover the Park Museum

Indian Springs State Park has a small museum. It is open during certain times of the year. The museum teaches you about the park's natural history. You can learn about the time it was a resort. There are also exhibits about the CCC and the history of the Creek Indians.
