The Indigenous-Aboriginal Party of Australia is a political group in Australia. It is also known as the Indigenous Party of Australia. This party started in Wilcannia, New South Wales.
Its main goal is to help Indigenous Australians and protect their rights. They also want to stop projects that harm important native lands. The party began in October 2020. It became officially registered on November 29, 2021. As of November 2021, it had over 2,000 members.
About the Party
This political party was started by Uncle Owen Whyman in October 2020. He is from the Paakantyi and Malyangapa peoples.
The party welcomes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to join. However, all members who lead the party or run in elections must be Indigenous.
The Party in Elections
As of March 2022, the party had six people running in the 2022 federal election in Australia. Owen Whyman himself ran for a seat in the Senate for New South Wales.
