The Australia's First Nations Political Party (AFNPP) was a political party in Australia. It was officially registered with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) from January 6, 2011. The party stopped being registered on August 15, 2015. This happened because they could not show they had the required 500 members. The party is also no longer registered in the Northern Territory.

About the Party

The party was started by Maurie Japarta Ryan. He was an independent politician before this. Maurie Japarta Ryan is also the grandson of Aboriginal Australian activist Vincent Lingiari.

The main ideas of the party focused on important issues. These included Northern Territory statehood, which means the Northern Territory becoming its own state. They also focused on Aboriginal sovereignty. This refers to the right of Indigenous Australians to govern themselves.

The party received 2.2 percent of all votes across the Northern Territory. Their best result was in the seat of Stuart. There, they received 16.4 percent of the votes. One of their candidates was Warren H Williams.

Federal Election 2013

The party also ran in the 2013 Australian federal election. They had two candidates for the Australian Senate from the Northern Territory. One of these candidates was Rosalie Kunoth-Monks. The party received 1.4 percent of the Northern Territory Senate votes.

Name Change

The party changed its name in November 2013. It changed from "Australian First Nations Political Party" to "Australia's First Nations Political Party".
