Indya Adrianna Moore (born January 17, 1995) is an American actor and model. They are well-known for playing Angel Evangelista in the TV show Pose on FX. In 2019, Time magazine named them one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Indya Moore is transgender and non-binary. They use they/them and she/her pronouns.

Early life
Indya Moore was born in the Bronx, a part of New York City. Their family comes from Haiti, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. When they were 14, Indya left home because their parents did not understand or accept them. They then lived in foster care, moving around a lot. Indya lived in all five boroughs of New York City.
Because of bullying, Indya left high school in their second year. They started working as a model at age 15. Later, they earned their General Equivalency Diploma (GED), which is like a high school diploma.
Career
Starting out
Indya Moore began modeling when they were 15. They worked for big fashion brands like Dior and Gucci. At first, the fashion world saw them as a risky choice.
Even though they were getting modeling jobs, Indya felt unhappy with the fashion industry. They didn't like how much it focused on body image. Indya met a dancer named Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza while working on a TV show called The Get Down. He told them to try acting. He sent Indya to an audition for a movie called Saturday Church.
Indya got the role of Dijon in Saturday Church. The movie was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter called the film "sweet and soulful." It was released in theaters on January 12, 2018.
In early 2017, Indya walked in New York Fashion Week. They were also photographed for Vogue España magazine. That same year, Indya appeared in Katy Perry's music video for "Swish Swish." They also performed live with Katy Perry on Saturday Night Live on May 20, 2017.
Pose television series
In late 2017, Indya Moore was chosen for the TV show Pose. This show was created by Ryan Murphy for the FX channel. Pose is about New York City ball culture in the late 1980s. Indya played Angel Evangelista, a character who works at the Christopher Street Pier. Angel meets a man named Stan and becomes his secret girlfriend.
The show first aired on June 3, 2018. The first season of Pose had the largest cast of transgender actors ever for a TV show. There were more than 50 transgender characters. The show was so popular that it was renewed for a second season. The second season started on June 11, 2019.
Current projects
In 2018, Indya Moore signed contracts with IMG Models and William Morris Endeavor (WME). Indya was the first transgender actor to sign with WME. Indya also started their own company called Beetlefruit Media. This company helps tell stories about groups of people who are often not heard.
Indya has appeared in music videos for other artists. They were in J.View's "Don't Pull Away" video in 2017. They also appeared in Blood Orange's "Saint" video in 2018.
In May 2019, Indya Moore made history. They became the first transgender person to be on the cover of the U.S. version of Elle magazine.
In December 2019, Indya started voice acting. They voiced the character Shep in the animated show Steven Universe Future. Shep is also a non-binary character.
In 2020, Indya was cast in the movie Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. This is a thriller film and a sequel to the 2019 movie Escape Room. The movie was released on July 16, 2021.
In June 2020, Queerty magazine honored Indya Moore. This was for the 50th anniversary of the first LGBTQ Pride parade. Queerty named Indya as one of the fifty people "leading the nation toward equality, acceptance, and dignity for all people."
Indya also voices the character Brooklyn in the animated show Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Brooklyn is one of Lunella's classmates.
Future projects
Indya Moore will appear in a new horror TV show called Magic Hour. This show is a new version of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Indya is also an executive producer for the show. They will also be in a short film called Spot. Indya is also set to appear in the second season of The Sandman.
Personal life
Indya Moore is transgender and non-binary. They use they/them and she/her pronouns. Indya has shared their experiences about being bullied and facing challenges because of who they are. These struggles led them to leave home at 14 and leave school in 10th grade.
