Early Settlement

The community of Ingalls was first settled in 1858. A person named Thomas Caldwell was the first to make his home here.

How Ingalls Got Its Name

The name "Ingalls" comes from a man named Eleazer Stillman Ingalls. He lived from 1820 to 1879. Eleazer Ingalls was a judge. He played a big part in setting up Menominee County in 1863. The community was named in his honor.

Trains and Mail

In 1872, a train station opened in Ingalls. It was part of the Chicago and North Western Railway line. This made it easier for people and goods to travel.

A few years later, on June 20, 1879, a post office began operating in Ingalls. The very first person to be in charge of the post office was Louis Dobeas. He lived from 1847 to 1933.
