Inger's Name and History
In the Ojibwe language, this community is called Chi-achaabaaning. This name means "by the Big Bowstring." It got this name because it is located along the Bowstring River.
Inger used to be part of a township with the same name. That township is now unorganized. The community was named after one of the first people to settle there. It even had its own post office from 1912 until 1955.
About nine miles south of Inger, you can find the Winnibigoshish Lake Dam. This dam is very old and important. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special place recognized for its history.
