Inka Bause (born November 21, 1968) is a famous German singer, TV host, and actress. She is also known by her stage names !nka or INKA. Inka was born in Leipzig, Germany. Her father, Arndt Bause, was a well-known composer.

Early Life and Education

Inka Bause was born in 1968 in Leipzig, which was then part of East Germany. She was the third daughter of Angret and Arndt Bause. Her father was a very successful composer of popular music in the 1970s and 1980s.

Moving to Berlin

When Inka was a child, her family moved to the East Berlin area called Biesdorf.

Discovering Her Talents

As a young girl, Inka was noticed by talent scouts from the Friedrichshain Music School. There, she learned to play the violin. After finishing school, she joined the Stamitz Orchestra. She also took lessons to play the piano and to sing. Inka later graduated with high marks from the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music.

Family Life

In June 1996, Inka Bause married Hendrik Bruch, who was a German singer and composer. They had a daughter in September of the same year. The couple later separated in 2005.

Music and TV Career

Inka Bause started her career in the mid-1980s. She became known as both a singer and a television presenter.

Early Singing Success

Inka first appeared on TV on New Year's Eve with her song "Spielverderber" ("Spoilsport"). She was chosen as the "Up-and-Coming Singer of the Year" by Neues Leben magazine for three years in a row (1985, 1986, and 1987). She also won the top prize on the music TV show Bong five times.

Her first music album, called Inka, was released in 1987.

Becoming a TV Host

In 1988, Inka Bause began a second career as a TV host. She regularly hosted a children's show called Talentebude ("Talent Booth") until 1991. She hosted this show with Hendrik Bruch, who would later become her husband. During this time, she also toured with music shows like Super Pop '88.

New Albums and TV Shows

In 1989, Inka released her second album, Schritte ("Footsteps"). This album included the song "Aber Du" ("But You"). In 1990, she sang this song on a West German TV show called ZDF-Hitparade. She was the first East German singer to reach third place on this show.

Because of this success, "Aber Du" was released as a single by Virgin Records. Inka later released more albums with Virgin Records, including Ich geh' durch die Nacht ("I Walk Through the Night") and Ein Zug von irgendwo ("A Train from Somewhere"). She also hosted other TV shows like Weinachten bei uns ("Christmas with Us").

Acting and More Music

In 1996, Inka Bause started acting. She played a role in the TV comedy film Der Millionär ("The Millionaire"). In 1998, she won first place at the Deutsche Schlager-Festspeile festival with her song "Ich will nur Dich" ("I Only Want You"). That same year, she played the main role in the MDR TV film Panik in der Blumenstadt ("Panic in Flower City").

Her 2001 song "Florian" from the album Sei happy ("Be Happy") was seen as a big return for her music career. She appeared on more than 20 TV shows, and the song was chosen as the top summer hit by the radio station MDR Sachsen. In 2003, her song "Mein Herz bleibt bei dir" ("My Heart Stays with You") won the MDR-Hitsommernacht. She also joined the TV network ZDF and hosted a Christmas Eve special called Musik aus dem Weihnachtsland ("Music from the Christmas Land").

Continued TV Hosting

Since 2004, Inka Bause has mostly worked as a TV host. She hosted Hüttenzauber on ZDF in 2004. She also hosted the last Sunday concerts for ZDF in 2004 and 2005.

Inka became very well-known for hosting the RTL reality show Bauer sucht Frau. This show is a German version of Farmer Wants a Wife. From 2006 to 2009, she also hosted the reality show Unser neues Zuhause ("Our New Home").

Acting and Game Shows

From 2008 to 2012, Inka Bause appeared in the ZDF TV series Das Traumschiff ("The Dream Ship") and its spin-off Kreuzfahrt ins Glück ("Cruise to Happiness"). She played the recurring role of a fitness trainer named Inka. In 2008, she hosted the game show Die 100,000 Euro Show ("The 100,000 Euro Show") on RTL. She also hosted the music reality show Die singende Firma ("The Singing Company") with Ross Antony.

In 2010, she hosted the RTL reality show Die Farm ("The Farm"), which was filmed in Norway. She also hosted other RTL shows like Papa gesucht ("Looking for Dad") and Jugendliebe ("Young Love").

Recent Music and TV Work

In 2008, Inka released the album Mir fehlt nichts ("I'm All Right"). She helped write the lyrics and was an executive producer for this album. She worked with her ex-husband Hendrik Bruch, as well as other musicians like Stefan Waggershausen.

In April 2013, Inka Bause became a co-host for the ZDF music show Die Frühlingsshow ("The Springtime Show"). In September 2013, she started hosting her own talk show called inka!. In 2015, she was a judge on the 9th season of Das Supertalent, which is Germany's version of the Got Talent show.

After not releasing music for ten years, Inka Bause released her eighth album, Mit offenen Armen ("With Open Arms"), in 2018. This was followed by the album Lebenslieder ("Life Songs") in 2020. This album was about her childhood and youth. She even started her own record label to release it. She also produced two music videos from the album herself.

Since November 2020, Inka Bause has hosted the show Inkas Abend ("Inka's Evening") on Schlager Radio B2. In 2021, she started appearing in advertisements for an online dating platform. She also took part in the 8th season of the reality show The Masked Singer, where she dressed as a slice of toast and finished in fifth place.

Community Involvement

Inka Bause is involved in many good causes.

  • Since 2005, she has been an ambassador for the Mitteldeutschland children's hospice. She also donated €25,000 she won from a TV show to this hospice in 2006. Since 2017, she has also been an ambassador for another children's hospice called Berliner Herz.
  • Since 2012, Bause has supported SchokoFair. This is a campaign by a Montessori school in Düsseldorf that works against the use of child labor in making chocolate.
  • Bause supports Irrsinnig Menschlich, a group that helps young people with their mental health.
  • She has helped build two kindergartens in Nepal with the help of Kinderhilfe Nepal e.V. She also gives money every year to help keep them running.
  • Bause supports projects by the Music School Pankow Weissensee. These include dance projects and helping a children's village in Windhoek for disabled children.
