Amiga is a well-known record label from Germany. A record label is a company that produces and sells music. Amiga used to be part of a state-owned music company in East Germany. Later, it became part of a private music group. Today, it is owned by Sony Music Entertainment.

The Start of Amiga
In 1947, a singer and actor named Ernst Busch started a music company. He got permission from the Soviet authorities in Germany. This company was called Lied der Zeit GmbH. This name means "Song of the Times." The Amiga record label was part of this new company.
Early Music Formats
Amiga first released music on 10-inch records that spun at 78 revolutions per minute (RPM). These were common at the time. In 1957, Amiga also started making smaller 7-inch records. These records spun at 45 RPM and were used for singles. Amiga continued to make 78 RPM records until 1960.
Amiga in East Germany
In the 1950s, Lied der Zeit became a state-owned company. This means the government owned and ran it. The company was called VEB Deutsche Schallplatten. This name means "German Records." This company had a special role. It was the only company allowed to produce records in East Germany.
What Kind of Music Did Amiga Release?
VEB Deutsche Schallplatten had different labels for different types of music. Amiga was one of its main labels. It released many kinds of music. This included folk music, jazz, pop music, and rock music. Amiga also released Schlager music, which is a popular German style. They even produced children's music.
Amiga After 1990
After 1990, East and West Germany became one country again. This event is called the German reunification. Many state-owned companies in East Germany were either closed or sold. In 1994, the Amiga label was bought by a company called Bertelsmann Music Group.
Amiga Joins Sony
Later, in 2008, Bertelsmann Music Group joined with Sony Music Entertainment. So, Amiga became part of Sony Music Entertainment. This means Sony now owns all the music Amiga has ever released.
Amiga's Music Collection
Amiga has a very large collection of music. It includes about 2,200 albums. It also has around 5,000 singles. In total, Amiga's collection has about 30,000 different songs and recordings.
