The Start of Amiga
Amiga was founded in 1947 by an actor and singer named Ernst Busch. He received special permission to create a music publishing company. This company was called Lied der Zeit GmbH, which means "Song of the Times." The Amiga record label was part of this new company.
Becoming a State-Owned Company
In the 1950s, Lied der Zeit became a state-owned company. This means it was owned and controlled by the government of East Germany. Its new name was VEB Deutsche Schallplatten, or "German Records." This company had a monopoly, meaning it was the only one allowed to produce records in East Germany.
Music from Amiga
VEB Deutsche Schallplatten had different labels for various types of music. Amiga was one of these labels. It released many kinds of music, including folk, jazz, pop, rock, and even children's music.
Amiga After German Reunification
After East and West Germany reunited, many state-owned companies were sold. In 1994, the Amiga label and its huge collection of music were bought by Bertelsmann Music Group. Later, in 2008, this group became part of Sony Music Entertainment. So now, Amiga is a label under Sony Music.
Amiga's Music Collection
Amiga has a very large collection of music. It includes about 2,200 albums and around 5,000 single songs. In total, they have about 30,000 different music titles.
