Inokashira Park (井の頭恩賜公園 (Inokashira Onshi Kōen)) is a popular park located in western Tokyo, Japan. It stretches across parts of the cities of Musashino and Mitaka. At its heart is Inokashira Pond, which is an important source for the Kanda River. This pond and the Kanda River water source were first used way back in the Edo period.
The land for the park was given to Tokyo in 1913. Then, on May 1, 1917, it officially opened. Its full name, Inokashira Onshi Kōen, means "Inokashira Imperial Grant Park". This shows that the park was a special gift from the Emperor to everyone. It has been a beloved spot for over a hundred years.

Exploring Inokashira Park
Inokashira Park is a large and interesting place. It covers about 383,773 square meters. The park is easy to reach, just a short walk from Kichijōji Station on the JR Chūō line or Inokashira-kōen Station on the Keiō Inokashira Line.
Park Layout and Features
In the middle of Inokashira Park is the long, narrow Inokashira Pond. It splits into two parts at one end. The Kanda River flows out from the other end of the pond. The park also has a thick forest area called Gotenyama and a small zoo.
The park is divided by city lines. The pond, Inokashira-kōen Station, and some garden areas are in Mitaka. The northern part of the park, just past the pond's shore, is in Musashino. Near the park, you'll find Kichijōji Station. The path from this station to the pond is full of fun shops.
Nature and Seasons in the Park
Inokashira Park looks different and beautiful in every season.
Spring Blooms
When spring arrives, the park becomes a wonderland of cherry blossoms. The trees lining the pond bloom so much that their branches almost cover the water. The soft pink blossoms create a stunning view, especially from Nanai Bridge. Many people visit the park during this time to enjoy hanami, which means flower viewing. Before the cherry blossoms, you can also see beautiful plum flowers in the park's plum grove.
Summer Greenery
In summer, the trees in Gotenyama are full of green leaves. This makes the park a cool and shady place to visit.
Autumn Colors
When autumn comes, the leaves on the many different trees in the park change color. They turn into bright reds, oranges, and yellows. The fallen leaves create a soft carpet on the walking paths.
Winter Wildlife
Winter in Inokashira Park is also lively. Many migrating birds come to the pond, making it their winter home. You might even spot some wild snakes in the park during warmer winter days.
Fun Things to Do in the Park

Inside the park, there's a small temple dedicated to Benzaiten, a goddess. The park also has a petting zoo where you can get close to animals and a small aquarium.
Performers and Artists
On weekends and holidays, especially during cherry blossom season, the park is full of life. Vendors sell snacks, and musicians, artists, and street performers gather to entertain the crowds. It's a very lively and fun atmosphere.
