The Institut Sup'Biotech de Paris, often called Sup'Biotech, is a special school in France. It started in 2003 and has campuses near Paris (in Villejuif) and in Lyon. This school is all about biotechnology, which is like using living things to solve problems or make new products.

Sup'Biotech offers a 5-year program. The first three years are like getting a first degree (a bachelor's degree) in biotechnology. The last two years are for a higher degree (a master's degree) in the same field.

Sup'Biotech's Story

Sup'Biotech was created in 2003 by the IONIS Education Group. This group helps set up many different schools. The goal of Sup'Biotech is to train people to work in biotechnology companies. These companies often work in areas like health, new food products, or protecting the environment.

Over the years, Sup'Biotech has received important approvals. In 2015, the French Ministry of National Education officially recognized the school. This means the school meets high standards for education.

Who Leads Sup'Biotech?

Sup'Biotech is part of the IONIS Education Group. Marc Sellam is the president of the university. He works with a director to manage the school.

Meet the Director

Since the school began, the director has been Vanessa Proux. She has a special degree called a doctorate in biochemistry. This means she has studied a lot about how living things work at a chemical level.

What Students Learn

Sup'Biotech has a special plan for students over five years.

First Degree in Biotechnology

The first three years are like a first step. Students learn the basics of biotechnology. During the third year, students must travel abroad. They study at a partner university in another country. This helps them learn about biotechnology around the world. They also do a 3-month internship to get real-world experience.

Advanced Degree in Biotechnology

After the first three years, students move on to the next two years. This is where they choose a special area to focus on. They can pick:

  • Research, Development, and Production: Learning how to create new things and make them.
  • Marketing and Sales: Learning how to sell biotechnology products.

Students also choose an option like:

During these two years, students do two more internships. These last 4 and 6 months. Most of the classes in these advanced years are taught in English.

Some students can also earn another degree at the same time. For example, they might get an MBA or a master's degree in basic research.

Studying Abroad

Sup'Biotech works with many universities around the world. This allows students to study in different countries. Some of these partner universities include:

Cool Research at Sup'Biotech

Sup'Biotech has special labs for research.

  • In 2010, they opened a Bioinformatics lab. This lab uses computers to study biology.
  • They also have a lab that studies cellular models.
  • In 2012, a new lab for bio-production opened. This lab focuses on making biological products.
  • Sup'Biotech also works with the famous Pasteur Institute on research projects.

Famous Graduates

  • Cyprien Verseux (graduated 2013): He was part of the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation IV mission. He also led a team at Concordia Station in Antarctica during the winter.
