International Percussion Festival facts for kids
The International Percussion Festival (also known as French: Festival international de percussions) is an exciting yearly event held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It's a big celebration of all kinds of percussion instruments, like drums, shakers, and xylophones! This festival takes place in different spots around Montreal every July for six days.
The festival is run by a nonprofit organization. This means its main goal isn't to make money. Instead, it aims to share the joy of music with everyone. Each year, over 500 musicians from Canada and around the world perform. They play on 4 different stages, and nearly 200,000 people come to watch! Every festival has a special theme, making each year unique.
History of the Festival
The International Percussion Festival started in 2002. It was created by two people, Gilbert Lucu and France Cadieux. The very first festival was held in a place called Venise-en-Québec. This town is close to the United States border.
Where the Festival Has Been
After its first year, the festival moved to Longueuil. It stayed there for many years. In 2015, the festival took place at the famous Old Port of Montreal. In 2016, it was held in the area of Verdun. The festival often moves to new and exciting locations around Montreal. This allows more people to experience the amazing music.
