I-87 NY 88

Interstate 88 (also called I-88) is an important highway in New York. It's part of the Interstate Highway System, a big network of roads across the United States. This highway stretches about 117.75 miles (189.50 km) from Chenango in the southwest to Rotterdam in the northeast.

About Interstate 88

Interstate 88 helps connect different parts of New York State. It runs through several counties, including Broome, Chenango, Otsego, Schoharie, and Schenectady. The highway is also known by two special names. One is the "Senator Warren M. Anderson Expressway." This name honors a New York politician who helped make the highway happen. The other name is the "Susquehanna Expressway." This name comes from the Susquehanna River, which flows through the region.

Where Does I-88 Go?

I-88 starts near Binghamton in Chenango, where it connects with Interstate 81. From there, it travels northeast. It passes by towns like Oneonta and Duanesburg. Finally, it ends in Rotterdam, near Schenectady. Here, it connects with Interstate 90, which is also known as the New York State Thruway.

Building Interstate 88

The idea for Interstate 88 began a long time ago. The highway was officially established on December 13, 1968. However, it took many years to build the entire road. Construction continued for over two decades. The full highway was finally completed in 1989. This made travel much easier for people and goods moving across this part of New York.
