Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time is a Japanese animated movie from 2001. It is a fantasy adventure film based on the popular Inuyasha manga series. The manga was created by Rumiko Takahashi.

This movie was directed by Toshiya Shinohara. Katsuyuki Sumisawa wrote the story for the screen. The animation studio Sunrise produced the film. It first came out in Japan on December 15, 2001.

The story of the movie happens between the second and third seasons of the Inuyasha TV show. In the film, Inuyasha and his friends face a powerful demon called Menomaru. Menomaru is brought back to life by a piece of the magical Shikon Jewel.

Affections Touching Across Time was the very first movie in the Inuyasha series. After this film, another movie called The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass was released.

Exploring the Movie's Story

The Return of an Ancient Evil

Long ago, Inuyasha's father, Toga, defeated a strong moth demon named Hyōga. This happened two centuries before the main story. Now, a piece of the powerful Shikon Jewel has freed Hyōga's son, Menōmaru.

Menōmaru wants to get revenge for his father's defeat. He also wants to unleash the huge power that was sealed away with his father.

Inuyasha and Friends Face Danger

In the present time, which is Feudal Japan, Inuyasha and his friends are on an adventure. His friends include Kagome, the monk Miroku, the demon slayer Sango, and the little fox demon Shippo. They have just finished fighting a scorpion demon.

Miroku and Sango then split up from the group. Sango's loyal cat demon, Kirara, runs off for some reason. This leads Miroku and Sango to Menōmaru's secret cave.

Menōmaru's Evil Plan

Inside the cave, Menōmaru and his female helpers, Ruri and Hari, attack Miroku and Sango. Ruri copies Miroku's special Wind Tunnel attack. Hari puts a curse on Kirara, making her follow Hari.

Later, Menōmaru uses a mind-control spell on Kagome. He places a shell on her forehead to make her turn against Inuyasha.

A Battle for Time and Souls

The heroes are pushed away by Menōmaru's powerful blast and get separated. Menōmaru then manages to get his family's ancient demonic power. He becomes a new, even stronger Hyōga.

He starts to change time and space itself. He absorbs the souls of many people to fully combine with his family's evil energy. Kagome, still under Menōmaru's mind control, is forced to try and kill Inuyasha. Inuyasha notices she is wearing clothes like Kikyo's.

He realizes what Menōmaru has done to her. Inuyasha faces the controlled Kagome at the Sacred Tree. She shoots him with a sacred arrow, just like Kikyo did long ago. Kagome then regains control and is sad about what she did. At this moment, Kikyo appears and sends Kagome back to her own time.

Kagome's Return and the Final Fight

Back in her own time, Kagome sees her family shrine and all of Tokyo covered in snow. This is caused by Menōmaru's curse. She goes to the tree where Inuyasha was sealed. She realizes she might never see him again if she can't get back to Feudal Japan.

She touches the tree and finds that she and Inuyasha are connected through it. They can talk to each other using their thoughts. Inuyasha asks her to come back to his era. Kagome takes a piece of Kikyo's sacred arrow from the tree and shoots it into the well.

She returns to Feudal Japan. Inuyasha is awake again, thanks to Shippo, Myoga, and Kaede. Miroku defeats Ruri in a battle using their wind tunnels. Sango helps Kirara break free from Hari's curse, and they defeat Hari.

They all join Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo for a final battle against Menōmaru. Inuyasha combines his Backlash Wave attack with Kagome's sacred arrow. Together, they defeat Hyōga.
