A Look at Inverinate's Past
Inverinate has a long and interesting history. For many centuries, an important family from Clan Macrae lived here. They were known as tacksmen. A tacksman was like a manager for a clan chief's land. They helped collect rent and looked after the people living there.
Loyal Clan Members
The Macrae family of Inverinate were very loyal to the Earl of Seaforth. The Earls of Seaforth were powerful leaders in the Highlands. The Macraes held important jobs for them. Some were Chamberlains of Kintail, which meant they managed the Earl's money and land. Others were castellans, or guardians, of Eilean Donan Castle. This famous castle is very close to Inverinate.
Famous Poets from Inverinate
Some members of the Macrae family were also well-known poets. Two famous poets from Inverinate were Donnchadh MacRath and Iain mac Mhurchaidh. They wrote poems in Scottish Gaelic, sharing stories and traditions.
Who Owns Inverinate Today?
Today, the large Killilan and Inverinate estate is owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He is the ruler of Dubai. This estate is very big, covering about 63,000 acres. It includes several large lodges, which are like big country houses.
Village Life and Facilities
Even though Inverinate is a small village, it has some useful places for the people who live there.
Local School for Kids
The village is home to Loch Duich Primary School. This school teaches children who live around Loch Duich. This includes kids from Inverinate, Morvich, Kintail, and Ratagan.
Other Important Services
Inverinate also has a petrol station. This means drivers can fill up their cars any time of day. There is also a Church of Scotland building. The village has a community centre too. Both the Church of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland hold their weekly meetings in this community centre. This is because the Church of Scotland building needs some repairs.
