Inverness Township is a small area in Cheboygan County, Michigan, in the United States. In 2020, about 2,159 people lived there. The township got its name from a place called Inverness in Scotland.

Geyersville
- Geyersville was once a rural post office in Inverness Township. It operated for a short time between 1877 and 1878.
Mullett Lake Community
- Mullett Lake is a small, unofficial community. It is located on the northwest shore of the large Mullett Lake. You can find it along M-27, about 6 miles southwest of the city of Cheboygan. The local ZIP code 49761 provides mail service for this area.
Riggsville
- Riggsville is another community in the township. It was named after the Riggs Family, who were early settlers there. Many family members lived in Riggsville, including Justice of the Peace Francis Stead, who married Lydia Riggs.
Geography of Inverness Township
Inverness Township is located in the northern part of Cheboygan County. The city of Cheboygan, which is the county seat, borders the township to the northeast. A part of the township's southeast corner actually extends into Mullett Lake.
The township covers a total area of about 96.3 square kilometers (37.2 square miles). Most of this area, about 87.7 square kilometers (33.9 square miles), is land. The remaining 8.7 square kilometers (3.4 square miles), or nearly 9% of the total area, is covered by water.

In 2000, there were 2,278 people living in Inverness Township. These people lived in 914 households, and 659 of these were families.
