History of Iola
Iola has a simple but interesting past. A business for grinding grain, called a milling business, was started here in the winter of 1828. This was an important step for the community. Later, in 1850, a church was built in Iola. This shows that the community was growing and becoming more established.

Iola is found in the northwestern part of Columbia County, Pennsylvania. It is located at coordinates 41°7′56″N 76°32′2″W / 41.13222°N 76.53389°W. The community sits along the western edge of Greenwood Township.

To the south, Iola is next to the town of Millville. To the west, it is bordered by Little Fishing Creek. Across this creek is Pine Township.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Iola covers a total area of about 0.7 square kilometers (0.28 square miles). Almost all of this area is land. The land in Iola is mostly flat. However, there are some gentle, rolling hills in the eastern part of the community. A large portion of Iola, especially in the northwest and southeast, is used for farming.

Two main roads pass through Iola. Pennsylvania Route 42 runs north and south right through the center of the town. At the northern end of Iola, Pennsylvania Route 442 branches off and heads towards the northwest. These roads help connect Iola to other nearby areas.
