Ira Bowman was born on June 11, 1973. He is a former American professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Today, he is an assistant basketball coach for Auburn University.
Ira Bowman went to Providence College and the University of Pennsylvania. Even though he was a great player, no NBA team picked him in the NBA draft. He later played for NBA teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and the Atlanta Hawks from 1999 to 2001.
Before the NBA, he played for the Connecticut Pride in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He was on the CBA All-Defensive Team in 1999 and 2000. He also played for the Grand Rapids Hoops in 2002. In 1996, he played 13 games in Australia for the Gold Coast Rollers.
Ira Bowman played high school basketball at Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, New Jersey. In his senior year, his team had an amazing record of 31 wins and only 1 loss. He also became the school's all-time leading scorer. When he played for the University of Pennsylvania, he was named the Ivy League Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 1996.
Ira Bowman's Coaching Journey
Ira Bowman was born in Newark. He started his coaching career there. From 2008 to 2012, he was an assistant coach at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He helped coach Jim Engles rebuild the NJIT Highlanders team.
In June 2012, Bowman returned to his old college, the University of Pennsylvania, as an assistant coach. He worked there for several years. In 2018, Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl hired Bowman. He is now an assistant coach for the Auburn Tigers.
