Iraj Danaeifard (Persian: ايرج دانايی فرد) was a famous Iranian football (soccer) player. He was born on March 11, 1951, and passed away on December 12, 2018. He spent most of his playing career with the Taj football club. He also played for the national team of Iran.

Iraj Danaeifard's Club Career

Iraj Danaeifard loved football from a young age. His father, Ali Danaeifard, helped start the Taj SC football club. Iraj became well-known in Iran playing for Taj. He helped them win the Iranian league championship in 1971.

He also played for other Iranian clubs like Oghab F.C. and Pas F.C.. With Pas F.C., he won the Iranian Takht Jamshid championship in 1977. Later that year, he returned to play for Taj.

In 1980, Iraj Danaeifard moved to the United States. He joined the NASL team called the Tulsa Roughnecks. He played for this team until 1984. After the league stopped, he retired from playing football.

Playing for Iran: International Career

Iraj Danaeifard was first chosen to play for the Iranian national team in 1977. He helped his country qualify for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. This was a very exciting time for Iranian football fans.

During the 1978 World Cup, Iraj played very well. Many people still remember his goal against the Scotland team. This goal was special because it was Iran's very first goal ever scored in a World Cup tournament.

After playing in the 1980 AFC Asian Cup in Kuwait, he decided to stop playing for the national team. He helped Iran reach third place in that tournament. Overall, he played 17 games for his country and scored 3 goals.

Later Life and Passing

Iraj Danaeifard passed away on December 12, 2018. He was 67 years old. His death was caused by liver failure.
