Iran Darroudi (born September 2, 1936 – died October 29, 2021) was a famous Iranian artist. She was known for her unique paintings. Her art often showed dream-like scenes with bright lights and Iranian themes. She lived in both Tehran, Iran, and Paris, France, for many years.

Early Life and Education
Iran Darroudi was born in Mashhad, Iran, on September 2, 1936. Her family were traders. In 1937, her family moved to Hamburg, Germany, for her father's work. They had to leave Germany in the early 1940s because World War II was starting. By 1945, her family returned to Mashhad.
Darroudi studied art in several famous places. She went to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. She also studied the history of art at the École du Louvre in Paris. Later, she learned about stained glass at the Royal Academy of Science, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels, Belgium. She also studied television direction and production in New York City.
Art Career and Style
Iran Darroudi's paintings are known as Surrealist works. This means her art often combined real and dream-like elements. She was very good at mixing the delicate and romantic style of Persian paintings with Surrealist ideas.
First Exhibitions
Darroudi had her first solo art show in Miami, Florida, in 1958. This exhibition was set up by the Florida State Art Center. It was a big step in her career.
Writing and Documentaries
Besides painting, Darroudi also wrote articles. She wrote about art history and art criticism for an Iranian newspaper called Kayhan. In 1968, she made a 55-minute documentary film. This film was about the 1968 Venice Biennial, a very important art exhibition. She was also made an honorary professor at the Industrial University of Tehran. There, she taught art history to students.
Important Commissions and Shows
In 1969, a company called ITT Corporation asked her to paint a special artwork. This painting was titled Iranian Oil. She held many exhibitions around the world. She had shows in Paris and at the Atrium Artist Gallery in Geneva. A month later, she had another show at Galarie 21 in Zürich.
In 1976, Darroudi's art was shown at the Mexican Museum of Art. A famous Spanish painter, Antonio Rodríguez Luna, saw her work. He praised her highly, calling her one of the world's four greatest painters. In 1978, she moved to France. After that, she divided her time between Paris, France, and Tehran, Iran.
Documentary Film
In 2009, a documentary film was made about her life and art. It was called Iran Darroudi: The Painter of Ethereal Moments. The film was produced by Bahman Maghsoudlou.
Personal Life
Iran Darroudi met Parviz Moghadasi in New York City. They got married in 1966. Parviz was studying television direction at the time. After they married, they both worked at the new Iranian television organization. Iran worked as a producer, and Parviz was a director. They worked together for six years. Sadly, her husband, Parviz Moghadasi, passed away in 1985.
Iran Darroudi died in Tehran on October 29, 2021. She was 85 years old.
