Iriana (born 1 October 1963), also known as Iriana Joko Widodo, served as the First Lady of Indonesia from 2014 to 2024. She is the wife of Joko Widodo, who was the President of Indonesia. Iriana is also the mother of Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is currently the Vice President of Indonesia.
Her Early Life and Education
Iriana finished high school at State High School No. 3 in Solo in 1983. After that, she studied at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. She attended for six semesters, which is three years, but she left before finishing her degree. She left to marry Joko Widodo.
Her Role as First Lady
When her husband, Joko Widodo, was the governor of Jakarta, Iriana took on an important role. She became the leader of the Family Welfare Education organisation. This group is known as Pembinaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga, or PKK for short. It is a national movement for women in Indonesia.
Before that, she also led the PKK in Surakarta from 2005 to 2012. This was when her husband was the mayor of Surakarta. As First Lady, she supported her husband's work and focused on social activities.
Her Family Life
Iriana married Joko Widodo in Solo, Central Java, on 22 December 1986. They have three children together. Their first son is Gibran Rakabuming, who was born on 1 October 1987. Their daughter, Kahiyang Ayu, was born on 20 April 1992. Their youngest son is Kaesang Pangarep, born on 25 December 1994.
