In 1997, he went to Narashino High School in Chiba Prefecture. He played for the school's football team. His school team even won the prefectural tournament in 1998.
Starting Professional Football
Homma began his professional career in 2000. He joined the team Albirex Niigata. His first professional game was on May 5, 2000. It was a J2 League match against Mito HollyHock. Just three days later, he scored his first professional goal. This helped his team win 2–1 against Shonan Bellmare.
In his first year, Homma played in 31 games and scored three goals. However, for the next few years, he often played as a substitute. This means he usually started games from the bench.
Becoming a Key Player
In the 2009 season, Homma became a very important player. He played for Jun Suzuki's team. The team often used a 4–3–3 formation. Homma usually played as a central or defensive midfielder. He kept his spot in the team. He played in 42 games during the 2009 season.
At the start of the 2010 season, Homma was chosen as the new captain of Albirex Niigata. This was a big honor. However, his playing time started to decrease in 2013. Other players like Léo Silva and Yuki Kobayashi played more. By 2014, he did not play in any games for Albirex Niigata.
Moving to New Teams
In August 2014, Homma moved to a new club. He joined Tochigi SC, which was a J2 League team. He played regularly as a defensive midfielder there. However, in 2015, Tochigi SC finished last in their league. They were then moved down to the J3 League in 2016.
In 2016, Homma continued to play regularly for Tochigi SC. The club finished second in the J3 League. But they lost in the promotion playoffs. This meant they could not move back up to the J2 League.
