Early Life
Ismail Yassine had a tough start in life. He was born in Suez, Egypt. His mother passed away when he was very young. His father was also jailed, which meant Ismail had to leave school early. He worked as a parking valet to support himself.
Becoming a Star
Ismail Yassine began his career as a "monologue singer." This means he would perform funny speeches and songs by himself. He moved to Cairo to follow his dreams. His good friend, Abo El Seoud El Ebiary, helped him a lot. Abo El Seoud was a talented writer of funny movie scripts. He helped Ismail join a famous acting group.
Ismail got his first movie role in 1939. The movie was called "Khalf El-Habayeb." After that, he joined another acting group. He quickly became very popular. Soon, he was one of the biggest stars in the Arab world. Many movies even used his name in their titles. This showed how famous he was! Most of these films were written by his friend, Abo El Seoud El Ebiary.
Ismail Yassine was famous for his funny faces. He often made jokes about his own "large mouth" in his films. His special comedy move was acting terrified. He would bring his wobbly knees together. His arms would shake in front of him. He would stammer silently, then suddenly take a big gasp of air. This always made audiences laugh!
Later in his life, Ismail Yassine faced some health problems. He moved to Lebanon for a while. There, he acted in a few more movies. When he came back to Egypt, he had many debts. He sadly passed away from a heart attack in 1972. His son, Yassine Ismail Yassine, also became a well-known film director in Egypt.
After a big change in the government in 1952, Ismail Yassine made some special films. From 1955 to 1959, he starred in five movies that supported the army. For example, one film was called "Ismail Yassine In the Army." These movies helped share positive messages about the military.
Legacy
Ismail Yassine is still remembered today. On September 15, 2011, Google honored him with a special Google Doodle. This was to celebrate what would have been his 96th birthday.
